Books for Education Project
“Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn.”
In northern Myanmar, Chinese-language schools face a severe lack of resources. Many children rely on decades-old black-and-white photocopied textbooks from Taiwan, worn out and outdated. These materials are repeatedly photocopied and passed down until the text becomes illegible and the images fade away. Extracurricular reading books are even rarer, with many schools having none at all.
In 2017, when we first visited Chinese-language schools in northern Myanmar, we were struck by the outdated resources the children were using. A curious student once asked us, “Teacher, are your textbooks black and white too?” That simple question deeply moved us and spurred us into action.
Determined to improve the learning conditions for these children, we launched the Books for Education Project. Partnering with Kang Hsuan Educational Publishing Corp. and other organizations, we began delivering colorful textbooks and high-quality reading materials to Chinese-language schools in the region. Our goal is to provide these schools with modern, sustainable resources, enabling children to not only access updated learning materials but also explore a broader world through reading.
Highlights and Achievements
1. Textbook Donations
Since 2017, we have delivered over 210 metric tons of textbooks, covering seven subjects: Chinese, Mathematics, English, Life Science, Social Studies, Natural Science, and Health. More than 100 schools and thousands of students have benefited from these resources.
2. Extracurricular Reading Collections
Hundreds of boxes of books have been donated, including children’s picture books, young adult novels, and educational dictionaries. Through partnerships with schools, publishers, and organizations in Taiwan, we have provided diverse reading materials that allow students to immerse themselves in the joy of reading beyond the classroom, opening up new avenues for learning.
3. Comprehensive Support
- Taiwanese volunteers lead activities to help children understand and engage with the stories in these books, turning them into valuable bridges to knowledge.
- Professional educators conduct school visits, providing guidance on reading promotion and effective use of textbooks.
A local teacher shared:
“Before dawn, the children eagerly run to school, curling up in the reading corner and losing themselves in the world of books.”
What was once a luxury has now become a reality. These books not only improve the children’s learning environment but also brighten their future with endless possibilities.
Our Vision
“Books are windows to the world, and education is a bridge to a brighter future.”
By ensuring a steady supply of textbooks and promoting reading, we hope to give every child the chance to explore their potential and pursue their dreams with the guidance of knowledge.
