Project Illuminate: Lighting Up Hope
Have you ever counted how many lights are in your classroom?
What would happen if your environment was too dim? How would it affect your daily life and ability to learn?
In Myanmar, many Chinese-language schools operate in basic classrooms with minimal infrastructure, and inadequate lighting is one of the most pressing challenges. For teachers and students who spend hours in these poorly lit spaces, the dim environment poses hidden health risks, particularly vision problems, which can negatively impact both their quality of life and their learning experience.
Lighting Up Hope
To address these issues, we launched the Project Illuminate: Lighting Up Hope initiative in 2018.
Partnering with the Taiwan Prevent Blindness Foundation (TPB) and other organizations,
we are working to improve the learning environments of rural Chinese-language schools in northern Myanmar.
Achievements
We have successfully upgraded the lighting and classroom conditions in 21 schools, completing major improvements such as:
1.Applying cement finishes and painting indoor walls.
2.Painting doors and windows.
3.Installing high-quality, energy-efficient lighting systems to completely overhaul indoor illumination.
4.Adding ceiling panels as needed.
In addition to enhancing classroom facilities, the project also incorporates eye care initiatives:
During on-site service trips, youth volunteers conduct comprehensive vision screenings for teachers and students.
Full financial support is provided for students with vision problems, covering referrals for treatment and eyeglasses.
Our Vision
This project aims to create well-lit, healthy spaces for focused learning, enhancing academic performance and paving the way for brighter futures.
Join Us
We invite companies, organizations, and foundations to help us illuminate classrooms and transform children’s futures. Together, we can make a lasting difference!
