Sponsorship and Support Program 2.0: Partnering with Schools

“What would it feel like to leave school to help your family before even finishing elementary school?”

In Myanmar, countless children are forced to leave school due to family and environmental hardships.

Yet we firmly believe that only education has the power to transform the fate of an entire region.

The Impact of Education

In northern Myanmar, countless children are forced out of school each year. Many of them are eager to learn but are held back by financial difficulties. Some girls are sent into arranged marriages, some boys are taken back to the mountains to work on farms, others are sent to the borders for labor, and many simply cannot afford tuition because their parents are overwhelmed by the financial burden of supporting multiple children. These children often inherit their parents’ struggles, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and losing the chance to change their future.

In 2018, we launched the Sponsorship and Support Program, connecting donors with students in need through one-on-one sponsorships to cover tuition costs. To date, the program has supported 264 students, from elementary to junior high school, creating meaningful change in their lives and their communities.

2022: A New Model for Sustainable Support

Building on years of experience, we recognized the need for a more sustainable and inclusive model of sponsorship. In response, we launched Sponsorship and Support Program 2.0: Partnering with Schools, a new initiative designed to support schools directly, enabling them to become stronger foundations for their students.

Through monthly donations, the program helps rural schools admit students who cannot afford tuition, including offering long-term boarding for orphans and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. With this model, schools can focus on improving the quality of education without worrying about the financial challenges of their students. This approach addresses one of the most fundamental challenges faced by small rural schools in northern Myanmar.
